Partnership Launches Major Redevelopment at 60 Margaret Street, Sydney

60M Piazza - View at Dusk

Sydney’s CBD is entering a new era of retail and commercial excellence as AsheMorgan and MEC Global Partners Asia commence the transformative redevelopment of 60 Margaret Street and The MetCentre, following development approval from the City of Sydney in late 2024. With Lipman Pty Ltd appointed as the main contractor, construction is now underway on one of the city’s most significant adaptive reuse projects.

A Cornerstone Location Reimagined

Strategically positioned at the nexus of George Street, Wynyard Park, and Sydney’s transport interchange, the project will revitalise the existing 35-level commercial tower into a fully electric commercial asset, while delivering six new levels of premium retail and commercial space fronting the premier George Street.

Vision & Design Excellence

The architectural vision combines contemporary design, sustainability, and adaptive reuse, transforming over 50,000sqm of commercial and retail space into a vibrant, world-class mixed-use destination.

Sustainability at its Core

Aligned with the partnership’s “Brown to Green” sustainability strategy, the redevelopment of the tower prioritises environmental performance through:

  • All-electric commercial building systems.
  • Enhanced environmental performance aligned with leading Australian benchmarks
  • Retained structural elements to reduce embodied carbon.

This approach ensures the asset is future-ready, resilient, and positioned for long-term value creation.

A Vision for Sydney’s Future

“This redevelopment is more than a physical transformation – it’s about unlocking the full potential of 60 Margaret Street as a thriving, world-class commercial and retail hub. It will deliver flagship retail, premium offices, and a revitalised public realm that aligns with the City of Sydney’s long-term vision for George Street,” said AsheMorgan Principal, Alton Abrahams.

Delivery Timeline

Construction is underway, with completion targeted for early to mid-2027, aligning with the ongoing evolution of the George Street north precinct into one of Sydney’s most connected, dynamic, and desirable working, shopping and investment destinations.
